O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me!
Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward to Thy glorious rest above!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore!
How He watches o’er His loved ones, died to call them all His own;
How for them He intercedeth, watcheth o’er them from the throne!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best!
‘Tis an ocean vast of blessing, ’tis a haven sweet of rest!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, ’tis a heaven of heavens to me;
And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!
Welcome to the weekend!
As we go through the series, I am praying for us to have some Sabbath time. Space to breathe and remember and celebrate. On Saturday and Sundays, I will plan for our posts to be a song or a poem, a quote or a verse. Or maybe just a picture. Time to reflect and rest in the love of Jesus. The deep deep love of Jesus. The love that abates fear.
The hymn above was written by Samuel Trevor Francis in 1875. As his biography describes “the London merchant, born in 1834 had a spiritual turning point as a teenager, contemplating suicide one night on a bridge over the River Thames. Experiencing a renewal of faith, he went on to author many poems and hymns.”
Knowing that information about his life, makes the words of the hymn even richer for me. To know the despair and fear that he must have faced and to know the beauty of these words that rose from pain. And the impact they have had on many lives in the last 140 years.
May you find this weekend, even just a sliver of time, to let the ocean of Jesus’ love wash over you. Your heart and soul. Your words and actions. All of it bathed in his love.

That is lovely! I’m not familiar with that hymn, but what a promise!
I plan on posting lighter pieces on Sunday’s. Sabbath is so important.
Trusting in the love and grace of our Jesus is the ONLY way I can face my fear and step into courage. He’s the ultimate soft place to land. This is my favorite line from the hymn: “Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love.” Always and forever.
While I love contemporary Christian music, and serve as a minister of it most weeks, hymns of the faith also grab my heart. Sometimes they speak to me in a way nothing else can.
This arrangement is wonderful!
Thanks, Melanie 🙂
Beautiful! A reminder to worship and rest is always welcome!
