“We have three people for a room at Allume and are looking for a 4th”
That tweet appeared on my feed. Having just prayed about rooming for the conference, I replied. I had no idea how blessed I would be by these women.
At different places and times, they were connected via college ministry. Their enthusiasm for God, his word and his name was refreshing.
When I heard Laura and Angi were releasing an Ebook, I was excited. Having now had the privilege of reading Reach- how to use your social media influence for the glory of God– I am thrilled to let you know about it.
As I was reading what kept striking me was- I am using social media. But how am I using it? Do my words point others towards God?
Am I building a platform for myself? Am I writing facebook statuses that portray me in a certain light? Or am I, above all else, writing things that are “lovely and true and pure”, as Paul writes? Those things that will ultimately let others know about the character of God?
Early on in the book a quote caught my attention. It is from the book, The Finishers by Roger Hershey:
“Like a relay race with thousands of legs, the baton of world evangelism and discipleship has been passed from generation to generation, each one carrying forward the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ in every nation. Some generations have taken the baton a great distance, others only inches, based on their obedience to Christ’s command and reliance upon His Spirit. Yet there will be one generation who will serve as the anchor leg, the one who will carry the baton across the finish line. We don’t know which generation will have that privilege, but we know it’s a certainty.” (page 27)
This quote set the stage for the rest of the book for me. With ideas to dream on, challenges to set as goals and pitfalls to be aware of, Laura and Angi call us towards impacting the world around us.
As a missionary. As a stay at home mom. In any context, we have a sphere of influence. I invite you to read this book and walk through the Potential, Principles, Pitfalls, Practicals and Partnering of using social media for the glory of God.
Now here’s even more good news! Today only the book is $2.99. Tomorrow the price will go to $4.99
You can order it here!
And lastly, I have an ebook to give away to one reader. If you would leave a comment, you will be eligible. In the comment, please include what social media you use most often. I will draw a name at the beginning of next week.
What an awesome quote! I picture my grandfather passing the baton on to me and I wonder who passed it on to him. How I wish I knew the history of that baton.
Hmmmm… lately I’m doing book promotion, so I’m using a lot of Twitter and Facebook, I used to love Pinterest, but I don’t get on there much any more. Very excited about the new book 🙂
I think we need to be very intentional about how we use our platform regardless of what it might be. I want what I write to reflect who I am behind the keyboard. I want it to reflect Him. Thanks for sharing this. I am looking forward to reading this one. Blessings friend.
Humor writing, I find, is tricky in regards to being intentional about my desire to point other’s toward God. Although that is always in the back of my mind, I find that my FB status updates (the Social Media I most often currently use) are, more often than not,on the side of funny than fruitful. Hmmm… This E-book sounds like a great read. And that is will serve as a much needed reminder to stay mindful of the potential reach of our platforms.
Oh… this sounds like a wonderful ebook! Great things to think about. I probably use my fb page most often. 🙂
